This time last year, the Sarasota African American Cultural Coalition received the greenlight to open the historic Leonard Reid House after completing a renovation project. We decorated and invited the community to enjoy carols at “A Newtown Christmas.” This year, SAACC honored donors, community leaders, and early supporters for an inspiring evening of art and reflection.
The highlight of the night was the unveiling of “When I Rise Up: The Power of Black Artists,” an exhibition showcasing Harlem Renaissance art, poetry and music. The show’s message of resilience is timely today.
Looking Ahead
SAACC needs your help to preserve African American history. “This milestone celebrates progress, but our work is far from over,” said Vickie Oldham, SAACC’s President.
